Why I Have a Passion for Owning and Restoring Muscle Cars
When I was growing up, “Dukes of Hazard” was one of my favorite T.V. shows. Granted, all little boys like to play with cars, but from the beginning I could tell I was going to have a strong passion for muscle cars. The reason I enjoy muscle cars so much is that they are American made and have character that you just can’t find in a new car. I’ve changed a little bit over the years and can see some attraction to the newer super cars like the Audi R8 (I went on an Audi driving experience recently).
I also feel really good about myself when I finish restoring a car because it takes quite a long time due to the money and commitment involved. My favorite muscle car of all time is the 1969 Camaro. I love the shape and the demeanor of the car, but I also see this car as the ultimate icon because it was the very first one I restored by myself without the help of my father. My dad had started restoring muscle cars when I was 13, and continued to do it up until last year when he retired. He fed my devotion and interest in muscle cars because I saw the proud look on his face every time he finished a car, and I vowed I would grow up to be like him someday and maintain my enthusiasm for American made cars. Thanks dad, you’ve given me one of the most exciting hobbies I could have ever dreamed for and I can’t tell you how special it is to me when we work on cars together.
